no needles protocol for GS

Recommended Posts

Has any GS done a cycle without using needles? My SIL will carry for us but she is scared of needles. Are the medications less effective without using needles (lupron, pio)? Are medications more expensive?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You will be very hard pressed in my opinion to be able to find a clinic that does not require some sort of injectible medications.

The lupron needle is very small.....it's an insulin needle. Most people do not even feel it when they inject. The PIO and some times the estrogen is an intramuscular shot. Some clinics do use other forms of progesterone (vaginal suppositories or gels, which have their own set of problems), but most clinics feel as though the intramuscular shots are the better choice for maintaining the progesterone level necessary to sustain the pregnancy.

The other thing you could look in to would be a clinic that has a more 'natural' protocol. They believe in using very little medications and following a woman's natural cycle but once the transfer is complete, again, there has to be some form of added estrogen and progesterone to sustain the pregnancy until the placenta takes over (usually between 10-12 weeks).

Good luck!
