Hi ladies,

I was reading a previous post about MN MCHA and was wondering if those of you who have experience with it could answer a few more questions about it.

Is it a policy that you can have ON TOP of an already existing policy? My potential GS has insurance that states under exclusions "surrogate pregnancy and related obstetric/maternal costs". So it sounds like her insurance is out for covering pg costs. But I was wondering if you have to have no insurance in order to be able to get the MCHA policy.

Does is cover surrogate pregancy like any other pregnancy? Are any of you using it now/used it recently? I ask only because I am so leary of insurance policies now that seem to be daily adding exclusions to surrogate pregnancy.

TIA for any info you can give me. We are really hoping to avoid the super duper expensive policies.

Feel free to PM me if you do not feel comfortable posting.

:thanx:

One more question.

Is it financially based at all. Meaning do you have to be below a certain income to qualify? It didn't look like it from the website.

Thanks!

I have MCHA on top of my other insurance through my husband which has an exclusion for surrogacy. As far as I know there are no other requirements--financial or otherwise. I obtained it through the agency that I am working with so it seemed fairly easy to get. They were well aware that I was getting it solely to cover a surrogate pregnancy.

Feel free to let me know if you have further questions--I'll try to answer with what I know.

Good luck to you!!

It is HP. Have you questioned them and gotten the official no? We haven't quite gotten that far yet, we are still pretty preliminary in everything.

Feel free to pm me if you don't want to talk about it on the boards. Thanks!

Pretty much exactly the same for me. DH's ins. doesn't cover it and I have MCHA o top of that. You (i think) have to go through your agency, or I have a name i can give you, because I would've been denied on my own due to already having insurance. She knows how to get them to accept you.

Hope that helps. :)

We are not going through an agency, since this is someone I know through a friend. So, you think I won't be able to get it for her unless it is through an agency?

I too, have HP for insurance and have pushed the issue and have gotten a flat out "No, we won't cover pregnancy related services if it is for you as a surrogate". I have asked the same questions many different ways and get the same answer. I didn't use my insurance for this last pregnancy, the parents purchased New Life(although I have never heard of this MCHA you speak of). What agency are you with that is recommending this as additional coverage? I am curious.

MCHA is not through an agency for surrogates/IPs it is just an Ins. policy anyone in MN can get if you meet certain criteria, and one of the criteria is if your ins. denied or will deny a claim so then you would qualify, here is there web site. http://www.mchamn.com

Holli, can you give me some more information on thie MCHA that you are using. My IM called MCHA and they said because I already have group health insurance coverage I am not eligiable for MCHA coverage too. We are just looking for other options because New Life doesn't seem willing to cover me again because 2 of the last 3 pregnancies for my IP's ended in miscarriage.
